この週末、「彼氏彼女の事情」というコミックのアニメを見ていました。

This weekend, I watched animations whose title "His and her situation"

私が物心ついてから、今に至るまで、「恋愛」や「結婚」が、価値観の最高位に君臨し続けていることは、しみじみと凄いことだなぁ、と、変な感想を持ちました。

I have a funny impression that it is great that "love affair" and "marriage" have been the top of hierarchy of our values in my life.

しかし、昔は、このような「恋愛」や「結婚」の勝者に対して、少くとも、それに対抗する言葉やフレーズはなかった。

But few word and phrase from the losers has appeared against the winners of "love affair" and "marriage".

―― 敗者は黙りこくり、勝者はそれを斟酌する

"The loser becomes silent, and the winner considers the situation".

かつて、そういう取り決めは、あったように思う。

I think that the above rules has existed before.

敗者が語り始める ―― そのこと自体は良いことだと思うのですが、

"The loser starts to claim something" is good for our society, however,

そうなると、遠慮なく勝者も語り始める、と思うのです。

"The winner also start to speak to the loser at ease.

■まず「長い」というスピーチは最悪です。

First of all, "long speech" is the worst.

そもそも、芸人でもない私達一般人の話術が楽しかろう訳がない。

First, we are not professional performers, so our verbal skills will never be splendid.

その程度の自己評価もできていない人間が、さらに長いスピーチをしたら、そこにあるのは「苦痛」という名の「地獄」です。

Even the person who cannot evaluate oneself, try a long speech, it is going "hell" that is called "pain".

■次に「ローカルネタだけ」というスピーチも最悪です。

Secondly, "local talk" is also the worst.

ローカルネタは、それを出席者全体が共有できるレベルにまで引っ張り込める技量を持っていることがが前提で、そんな技量を持っている人は、恐しく少ないです。

To speak the "local talk," a speaker should have a unique technique to spread the talk to other attendees to share the joy. However, few people have the technique.

■「格言や名言の引用」というスピーチも最悪です。

Finally, "apothegmatize" is the worst.

『なんで、披露宴まできて、お前に説教されなきゃならん』と本気で腹が立ってきます。だいたい、赤の他人からそんなもの聞かされて楽しいと思うか。馬鹿野郎めが。

I become to burn the anger with thinking "Why I have to hear your useless sermon this private party?" "Above all, If you were me, do you think your sermon is "God-given ?" Don't be silly.

そもそもスピーチの内容を真面目に聞いている人間など、全体の10%程度で、その内容を覚えているのは10%を切ります(実際は、もっと少ないだろうと思う)。

First, about 10% of a party hears a speech seriously, and less than 10% of the persons will forget the contents of the speech. ( I think it might be smaller.)

とすると、「楽しい」スピーチの発生率は多く見積っても1%未満であり、あとの99%以上は「苦痛だけ」のスピーチである、という解釈も可能です。

This estimation shows that the possibility of "amusing speech" is less than 1%, and the remaining more than 99% is "painful speech".

という客観性を、徹頭徹尾、欠いていることですね。

They lose the objectivity from start to finish.

客層を意識していない、空腹でイライラしている、などの配慮がないことも勿論、話題が脈絡なく続くスピーチが、論理性を欠き、出席者をどんどん不快にさせていくことに気がついていない。

They ignore the layers of guest and the unpleasure of hunger, and the topics of their speech are not consistent, concise, and logical. They never understand that they are annoying attendees.

―― 会社で偉い立場の人間だか何だか知らんが、その程度のプレゼンスキルで、その地位にいられるものだ

"I don't know your job title, though. I cannot understand your title because of your terrible speech."

と、ついには、その人の「下手くそなスピーチ」が、新郎や新婦の属する評価まで下げてしまいます(私の中では)。

In my mind, the terrible speech is a downgrading assessment of the bridal couple, at last.

これは、結婚披露宴の趣旨を、著しく損うことになっていないでしょうか。

This is a sort of destroyer of bridal ceremony.

私は、「友人至上主義」と「ぼっち至上主義」の比率を50:50くらいで位置付けておくのが良いと思います。

暴力といえば、「数字」も「データ」も結構な暴力でしょう。

According to "violence," both "number" and "data" will be violence.

私、「数字」と「データ」を使った連載を続けておりますが、今のところ、この連載のコラムに対して、正面から疑義を唱えてきた人は、片手にも満たないです。

Now, I was given works of serialized columns, and only a few people have taken objection to the contents until now.

そのような人でも、きちんと筋道を立ててお話すれば、納得して頂けます。

The person also can understand my thoughts logically.

もちろん、私が間違っていることもあり、意見を修正することもあります。

Of course, I sometimes make mistakes and modify my opinions.

しかし、疑義を唱えてこられるようなケースは絶無というほど少ないです。

However, the cases have been rare despairingly.

「数字」と「データ」は、理解が難しい上に、反論がしにくい。

逆から見れば、多くの人を騙すのには「数学」は最高の武器で、「数字」は権力サイドの最高のツールにもなるのです

もうこれ以上はダメだ ―― と、先日会社の診療所にいったら、サクッと、この「セルシン」を処方して貰えました。

After I thought I could do nothing, I went to a clinic of my company, and the doctor prescribed the drug "Cercine" for me.

これが、凄くてですね、朝方、セルシンを一錠飲み込んで、布団の上に倒れこんでいるいると、ホワイトボードが頭の中から消えていくんです。

This drug is more significant than I expected. After taking an ace, the whiteboard disappears in my head, lying asleep.

ホワイトボードがなくなって、ホッとしているところで、目覚まし時計のアラームに起こされる、ということができます。

After I feel relieved to confirm the whiteboard is leaving, I can wake up by an alarm clock.

十分な睡眠ではないかもしれませんが、鉛のような体を引きづって歩いていた日々を考えると、

まあ、何が言いたいかと言いますと、

視覚に訴える媒体(ここでは「デザイン」という)のパワーは恐るべきものがあります。

I believe the media based on visualization, calling it "design" in this diary, is awful.

■まず、第一に、デザインが圧倒的に購買意欲を支えているという事実があります。

Firstly, "design" appeals to "eagerness to buy" strongly.

私がどんなに機能が優れていることを説明しても、嫁さんや娘達は、自分の気に入ったデザインの自動車や携帯電話から、ブレることはありませんでした。

My wife and daughters had never accepted my persuasion that they should select productions, like automobiles and cell phones, to view the functions.

私はこの時、私たちエンジニアが命懸けで開発している「機能」という価値が、「デザイン」という価値には、遠く及ばないことを、魂のレベルで理解したのです。

At that time, I could understand profoundly that the value of "functions" is inferior to the value of "design," even if our engineers struggle to develop new good functions.

私は、MACやiPod/iPADのデザインやインターフェースが好きではありませんが、私が少数派であることは、明らかなことです。

I wouldn't say I like the designs and the interface of MAC or iPod/iPad, though it is obvious that I am in a minority group.

■第二に、デザインは、世界共通言語であるという事実があります。

Secondly, "design" is an international communication language.

「英語に愛されないエンジニア」であるこの私でさえ、海外赴任や出張をしてこれたのは、世界中にホワイトボードがあり、そして、メモ用紙があったからです。

I have gone on business trips worldwide, though I am a typical "loveless engineer from English" because I can use paper and whiteboard.

"□"と"→"さえ書ければ、「この世界の全ての事象は表現できる」と思っています。

I can explain "the world" by drawing rectangles and arrows.

■第三に、(これはエンジニア特有の話になりますが)デザインが、工学的アプローチに必須のアイテムであるという事実があります。

Thirdly (this might be for engineers only), "design" is indispensable for the engineering approach.

絵が含まれていないプレゼンテーション資料なんぞ、誰にも読んで貰えません。

Nobody wants to read a presentation material with pictures.

また、図面を含まない特許明細書は、多くの場合、特許庁の審査官から拒絶査定を喰らいます。

In many cases, patent applications without a picture are rejected by the Patent Office Board of Appeals.

それは、「発明が劣っている」からではなく「審査官が発明を理解するのが難しくなる」からです。

It is not for "poor invention" but for "hard to be understood by examiners."

それと、自分のアイデアを、デザインレベルで具現化できる、ということは、そのアイデアが「完成している」ということの証明になります。

Moreover, the "possibility to realize my idea as a design" proves my idea's completion.

ところが、この「デザインを舐めている」エンジニアや研究者が、結構な数いるんですよ。

However, I am afraid that many engineers and researchers make little of this design power.

特許ブレストにつきあわされた後での、昨日の日記を読んだ後輩との会話です。

After the patent brainstorming, I chatted about yesterday's diary of mine with my junior fellow.

後輩：「そりゃ、手紙でも何でも書きますよ。でも、バカバカしいですよ」

Junior: "If you want, I write a letter or anything to your daughter. But it will be radish."

江端：「何で？」

Ebata: "Why?"

後輩：「私達は『浮気』という行為から、もっとも遠いところに位置している人間ですよ」

Junior: "We are far from "affair" in the world."

江端：「言わんとしていることは分かるが」

Ebata: "I understand what you want to explain."

後輩：「私達が浮気できるなら、世の中からは女性はいなくなりますよ」

Junior: "If we can cheat, all of the women in the world will lose."

江端：「・・・？」

Ebata:"...?"

私がよく分からないという風に、首をかしげると、彼は話を続けました。

When I looked quizzical, he continued his talk.

後輩：「私達が1人と浮気できるなら、普通の男性なら20人と浮気が可能です。『浮気市場』における完全な供給不足に陥いります」

Junior: "If we can cheat one woman, other men except us can cheat more than twenty women simultaneously. In the "love affair" market, women will come short."

江端：「ま、そうだよなあ。浮気って、やっぱり一種の才能だと思う。あれは資質のある人間にしかできないと思う」

Ebata: "I agree. and I also think "affair" needs some kinds of talent and qualifications."

後輩：「もし、私が何日も自宅に帰宅しなくても、私の嫁は『事故かもしれない』とか『仕事に夢中になっているかもしれない』とは思っても、『浮気をしているかもしれない』とは絶対に思わないですよ」

Junior: "Even if I don't go back home for several days, my wife will think about the possibility of accidents or work in the office. But I can tell the world "she never thinks of my affair."

江端：「多分、ウチもそうだ」

Ebata: "My wife, too."

後輩：「独身の時、合コンの最中に『かったるいなぁ、早く帰って、あの論文読みたいな』と思ってしまう人間ですよ、私は」

Junior: "I am a person who can think "I want to go home and read the paper soon" during the mixer party."

そういえば、私も、デートの最中に、『彼女を駅に送ってから、何時ごろに研究室に戻れるかなあ』ということを思ってしまう人間でした。

Come to think of it, I also thought, "What time can I arrive at the lab after this date."

ここで一息ついて、後輩は言いました。

後輩：「はっきり言いますけど、江端さんのところの娘さん、父親に対して『幻想』でも持っているんじゃないんですか」

Junior: "To tell you the truth, your daughter has an "illusion" of her father, doesn't she?"

江端：「『幻想』？」

Ebata: "Illusion?"

後輩：「江端さんがモテるなどという、そういうバカげた誤認を、どういう観察をしていたら可能となるのか。ちょっと本気で正気を疑いますね」

Junior: "I cannot understand the thought that Ebata-san is popular with women, which is an apparent error. I doubt your daughter's sanity seriously."

江端：「まあ、そうだけど・・・そこまで、はっきり言われると、腹立つな」

Ebata: "You are right, but I am disgusted with you."

日本において、「二宮金次郎」をいう人物を知らない人は少ないと思うのですが、彼が何をやったのかはほとんどの人が知らないと思います。

In Japan, "Ninomiya Kinzirou" is a very famous historical person, you know. But most people don't know what he was rewarded with good results.

二宮尊徳 ―― 彼は、農政施策コーディネータです。

His formal name is "Ninomiya Sontoku". He was an agricultural administration measure coordinator.

水害被害の復興、飢饉問題に対する地方自治体(小田原藩)へのアドバイス、その他、財政再建などに才を発揮した人です。

He displayed his talents for the revival of the flood damage, advice to the local government (Odawara feudal clan) on the issue of famine, and finance reform.

しかし、私と娘(次女)にとっては、「二宮金次郎」とは、単なる歴史上の偉人ではなく、精神的支柱そのものなのです。

But he is not a historical person for my second daughter and me. He is a mental prop itself.

彼は実践的なウォーキングリーダーでした。

He was a radical walking reader.

「歩き読書」を、実践し、かつ成果を出したという、紛れもない実例の一人なのです。

He practiced "walking reading" and made some excellent fruits. He is one of the prominent examples.

私たち「歩き読書」派にとって、彼のライフスタイフこそが、人生の金科玉条（きんかぎょくじょう）であり、また「歩き読書」を批判する人間に対する、アンチテーゼそのものでした。

For us at "Walking Reader" school, his lifestyle is a golden rule and a typical antithesis against the critics who blame him for "walking reading."

近年、「歩きスマホ」なる亜流の輩が、各種の事故を起こして、我々「歩き読書」派までに迷惑をかけています。

Recently, the imitators called "Walking Smartphone" are annoying us "Walking reader" school.

二宮尊徳の思想と、ウォーキングリーダーテクニックをすでに身につけている私が、あのような未熟な輩と一緒にされるのは、納得できません。

I cannot put up with such unripe people who have no idea of "Ninomiya Sontoku" and no technique for walking or reading.

I happened to burst into laughter.

思わず、瀬戸口みづきさんの著作を、調べてしまいました。

Accidentally, I started to search Setoguchi Mizuki-san's works.

と同時に、

I tried to search the songs which includes the phrase of "even if I antagonize the world", and I could find forty-two songs in Japan.

というフレーズを採用している歌詞も調べてみたところ、42曲見つけました。

In Japan, there are more than forty-two singers who are with plenty of courage, fighting the seventh fleet of the United State, and Israeli intelligence agency.
