The opinions are scattered.
ちょっと安心しています。
I feel a bit relieved.
東京ー大阪間が12時間かかっていた頃(1960年台後半)に、『3時半(当時それくらいだった)という、短い時間で移動してどうする』という意見がありました。
When the journey between Tokyo and Osaka took 12 hours (in the late 1960s), some people said, ‘How can you travel in such a short time, 3.30 (that was about the same at the time)?

このような反対意見は、サービス開始直後、遅くとも(私の所感では)半年以内に、立ち消えます。

もっとも、予想通りの悪い事態が発生すれば、反対運動が盛り上がることもありますが、レアケースです。

話し合いは民主主義の基本ではありますが、最終的にモノを言うのは権力者の考えです。
Discussion is the basis of democracy, but the ideas of those in power have the final say.
権力者は、表向き、民主主義の基本である多数決(投票)によって選ばれることになっていますので、ロジカルには「権力者の権力の行使」は、筋が通っている(ことになっています)。
Ostensibly, those in power are elected by majority rule (voting), which is the basis of democracy, so logically, the ‘exercise of power by those in power’ makes sense (supposedly).
で、まあ、その権力者の意向を「なにがなんでもひっくり返したい」という場合は、手段は一つしかありません。
And, well, if you want to ‘overturn the will of the powers that be’ at any cost, there is only one means.
抗議運動とか、デモとか、革命とか、いろいろな呼び方がありますが、非合法であればそれば、それは「テロリズム」となります。
There are many ways to call it a protest movement, a demonstration, or a revolution, but if it is illegal, then it is ‘terrorism.’

私、リニア新幹線はバックアップシステムだと思っています。

現在と同じ2本目の新幹線路線を作ってもよかったと思いますが、それでは芸がないし、民意も得られませんし、予算も計上しにくいです。

どうせやるなら、新しくて、最新技術のものの方が「ウケがいい」に決っています。

Anyway, there is always a certain number of people who oppose new things.
そういう人は、「木簡に文字を刻み」「薪で米を炊く」を一生続けていればいい、と思います。
I think such people should continue ‘carving letters on wooden letters’ and ‘cooking rice with firewood’ for the rest of their lives.
