昨日の日記で、
In yesterday’s journal,
「今回、この自民党のタブーに踏み込んだ小泉農林水産大臣は、自民党党内と農協（JA）との権力闘争に突入するんだろうなぁ」
“I suppose Minister of Agriculture Koizumi, having touched a taboo within the LDP, is now heading into a power struggle with both the party and JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives).”
と書きました。
That’s what I wrote.
「予想を外すことでは右に出るものはいない」と自負している私ですが、さすがにこの程度の予想は当たるようです。
I pride myself on being second to none when it comes to making wrong predictions, but even I can get something this obvious right.
自民党の野村哲郎元農相（81）が31日、党の手続きを経ずに備蓄米の売り渡しを進めたとして、小泉進次郎農相に苦言を呈したと、各社が報じた
On May 31, multiple outlets reported that former Agriculture Minister Tetsuro Nomura (81) criticized Minister Koizumi for pushing forward the sale of reserve rice without going through the LDP’s internal procedures.
── ほらね。やっぱり、こうなる訳ですよ。
See? I knew it would come to this.

ネット上では、野村氏に対して「無能」「老害」「既得権益者」「国民生活を分かっていない」といった批判が殺到しています。
Online, Nomura is being slammed with criticism — “incompetent,” “outdated relic,” “defender of vested interests,” “clueless about public life,” and so on.
ただ、私としては、直ちに野村氏の発言を断罪する気にはなれません。
But I’m not so quick to condemn his remarks outright.
なぜなら、この方が地元に帰れば、JAや関係者から、
Because when he returns to his constituency, he’ll be cornered by JA and local stakeholders saying,
「なんでウチに相談せず、勝手に別の販路を開きやがったんだ」
"Why did you open a new distribution channel without consulting us?"
と、延々と詰められるからです。文句の一つも言いたくなる気持ちは分かります。
He’ll be hearing that for a long time. I can understand why he’d want to voice a complaint or two.
とはいえ、今回に限って言えば、野村氏には分がありません。
That said, in this particular case, Nomura has no solid ground to stand on.
タイミングも最悪。
The timing couldn’t have been worse.
私だったら、空気を読んで、大臣のちょっとした失策を見計らって、陰湿にネチネチと攻撃する。
If it were me, I’d wait for the Minister to slip up a bit, then subtly and persistently launch an attack — tactfully, of course.

ただ、今回の件ではっきりしたのは、
But what this case has made unmistakably clear is this:
「米価の調整が進まなかった本当の理由は、自民党内の“権力者のメンツ”だった」
The real reason rice price adjustments weren’t progressing was the pride and ego of power holders within the LDP.
という、動かしがたいエビデンスが出た、ということです。
And this incident serves as solid evidence of that.
