以前、どっかで書いたような気がしますが、どうしても見つけられなかったので、ネタかぶりを覚悟して、もう一度記載します。
I think I've written about this somewhere before, but I couldn't find it in my homepage, so I'm going to state this again, at the risk of spoiling the story.
私、2000年から2年間、コロラド州のフォートコリンズという街に、エンジニアとして赴任していました。
I was assigned to Fort Collins, Colorado, as an engineer for two years, starting in 2000.

そのクラスで、「あなたがもっとも面白かった映画を紹介して下さい」という内容のスピーチをする機会がありました。
I had the opportunity to give a speech to that class, that was "Tell us about the movie you enjoyed the most".
クラスの男性たちは、「スターウォーズ」だの「バックツーザフューチャ」などと言っていたところで、私の番が回ってきました。
The men in my class were saying things like "Star Wars" and "Back to the Future", and in my turn, when I said

この映画は、嫁さんとデートしていた頃に、何の気なしに入った映画館で、たまたま見たものだったのですが(別に前評判が高かったという訳でもない) ――
I happened to see this movie in a movie theater without thought when I was on a date with my wife. (Not a great reputation before).
今になって考えれば、この映画は、嫁さんとの結婚に至る大切なランドマークになったような気がしますし、今なお、二人とも忘れることのできない思い出です。
In hindsight, I feel like this movie was an important landmark in my marriage to my wife, and it's still a memory that we both will never forget.
で、今夜、前回の「シンドラーのリスト」に続き、Amazon Primeでの上映会と相成りました。

『この映画だけは日本語吹替は絶対にありえない！』と主張して、私は、字幕版の視聴を独断で決めました。

私も、久々に映画で感動していたのですが、初見の長女は「かっこいい～～！」を連呼しながら、リビングで狂っていました。

時々、英語で文章を書かなければならないことがありますが、滅多に聞かない日本語を英語に変換する時に困ってしまいます。
Sometimes I have to write a sentence in English, however I have trouble converting infrequently used Japanese into English.
「行動変容」「忖度」「根回し」 ―― これらの日本語を、一発で英語に翻訳できる人がいたら、凄いと思います。
"Koudou Henyou","Sontaku" "Nemawashi" I think it would be great if someone could translate these Japanese words into English in one shot.
私の場合、こんな感じで翻訳しています(「根回し」を例に上げます)
In my case, this is how it translates (I'll use "Nemawashi" as an example)
(Step.1) まず、翻訳サイトで、複数のいいわましを調べます。
(Step 1) First, look up several English words on a translation site.

「薬物依存症」という言葉から考えると、さしずめ私は「セルシン(*)依存症」と称されても良いのかもしれません。
The term "drug addiction" is used, but I suppose I could be called a "cslsin(*) addiction" for now.
(*)精神安定剤の一種で、20錠で700円程度で処方して貰えます。
(*)It is a kind of tranquilizer, and you can get a prescription for 20 tablets for about 700 yen.
ただ、2～3日に1度くらい、早朝に目が覚めた時に摂取している程度なので、「依存症」と呼べるものかどうかは分かりません。

世の中の多くの人に比べれば、私は、「もの凄く在宅勤務に適した業務」をしていますので、贅沢を言ってはならないのですが、色々問題も出てきています。

しかし、どうにも故障の原因が分かりません。

そこで、ケーブルを替えたり、音源を替えたり、各種の実験をしたのですが、どうにも原因が特定できませんでした。

そこで、"TR-10RDX"を廃棄することにして、代替機の購入を検討しはじめました。

しかし、"TR-10RDX"は、すでに販売が終了していて、ヤフーオークションでは、定価より高い値段でやりとりされていました。

そもそも、我が家には、無線LANのWiFi電波が家の隅々まで行き渡っています。

もう、これは、FMを諦めて、信号ケーブルを床下に直接配線するしかないかな(以前やったことがある) と思っていました。
I thought I should give up FM transmission and wire the signal cable directly under the floor (I have done it before).
そんな時、私の部屋の中に設営されていた、2台目の"TR-10RDX"を発見しました。
At that time, I found the second "TR-10RDX" that had been set up in my room.
「よし。これで、問題は解決した」と2台目を設置したところ、故障機と思っていた1台目の"TR-10RDX"と全く同じ問題が発生することが分かりました。
I thought "Okay, I solved the problem", and I installed the second machine. However I confirmed that the exact same problem of the first machine occurred.

そこで、装置の周辺を徹底的に調べまくったところ、信号ケーブル接続部に問題があることが判明しました。
After thoroughly inspecting the area around the device, it was discovered that there was a problem with the signal cable connections.
(ただ、私は、3つの信号ケーブルでも追試を行っており、正直、この現象は説明できないのですが、面倒なので忘れることにしました)
(However, I have also done follow-up testing with three signal cables, and to be honest, I can't explain this phenomenon, but I decided to forget about it.)
ともあれ、これによって、私は、"TR-10RDX"が正常稼動する状態に戻すことができました。
Anyway, I was be able to get it back in working order before.
これで、プレミア価値がついている"TR-10RDX"を廃棄せずに済みました。
This saved me from discarding the "TR-10RDX", which has a premium value.

そういえば、今回の作業中に、嫁さんに「このシステムを再構築するのに、いくら予算を出せる？」と聞いたら、

一言「任せる」と言われて、この件を丸投げされました。

まあ、私、ケチで、自作で安くすますことに喜びを感じるタイプです。
Well, I'm a cheapskate, and I'm the type of person who delights in making my own products cheaply.
LANの敷設は勿論、戸棚、本棚、バイク用の車庫に至るまで、全部DIYです。

ともあれ、『自分の分からないことに対しては、一切口を出さない』という嫁さんの姿勢は、清々しく、美しく感じます。
Anyway, my wife's attitude of 'not speaking out about anything she cannot understand' is refreshing and beautiful.
『何も作り出さず、他人の創作物に口を出すことで、仕事をしているような気になっている奴』に腹を立てている時には、ことさら、嫁さんへの深い敬愛を再確認できます。
When you're angry at they guy who cannot make anything, but feels like they are doing their job by meddling in my creations, even more so, I confirms my deep respect for my wife.

that is in my house somewhere, but I don't know where it is.
特に、コラムの引用文献を探している時であって、締切が迫っている時などは大変です。
It's especially hard when I am looking for citations for your column and I have a deadline looming.
探している時間が惜しいからです。
Because I don't have time to spend looking for it.
それに、私は本をポイポイと捨てる癖があり、本が本当に家の中に存在しているのかも分からない時があります。
In addition, I have a habit of littering books, and sometimes I don't even know if the books really exist in the house.

結果的に、何度も同じ本を購入してしまうことがあります。
As a result, I may end up buying the same book over and over again.
ただ、これまでと違うところは、「電子書籍での購入」です。

これまで、私は、「紙の本にこそ価値がある」と主張し続けていましたので、娘には『パパって、簡単に意見を変えるよね』と軽蔑されています。

しかし、私の価値は、この『節操のない変節』とか『ノリの軽い転向』にあると信じていますので、気にしていません。

「『頑固一徹』をポリシーとしている奴から消えていく」ということは、私の人生の中での、ほぼ外れのない経験則です。

今回購入したのは、故小松左京先生の「日本沈没」です。
This time I purchased "Japan Sinks" by the late Mr.Sakyo Komatsu.
この小説の中に出てくる、一場面をどうしても読み返したくて、電子書籍で購入してしまいましたが ―― 本当に買ってよかった。
I really wanted to reread a scene in this novel, and I bought it as an e-book -- and I'm really glad I did.
電子書籍リーダーの検索機能だけで、一気にその場面に飛ぶことができるからです。
This is because the search function of the e-reader alone allows me to jump to the scene at once.
ちなみに、私が読み直しをする時は、大抵の場合、特定の気にいった場面だけを繰り返し読むことが多いです。
By the way, when I reread, I usually only repeat certain scenes that I like.
「日本沈没」では、

この部分は、何度読んでも、泣きそうになります。

今回、改めてこの本を読んでみたのですが、もの凄い物量のシミュレーションに圧倒され続けました。

そして、それを知りもしない私たちは、安全なところから、好き勝手で、心無いコメントを投げつけているんだろうな、と思いました。
