これが、1970年頃だったら、数十万人の反対デモで国会議事堂は取り囲まれていただろうなー、と思うと、隔世の感があります。

It is a world away from what it would have been like in 1970, when the Capitol would have been surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people demonstrating against the project.

国防危機、エネルギー危機、侵略の現実、と、これだけ盛り沢山の劇場型リアルを見せつけられては、正論やロジックでは、反論は困難です。

It is hard to argue with good arguments and logic when presented with so many theatrical realities: the national security crisis, the energy crisis, the reality of the invasion, and so much more.

これはもう、北朝鮮、中国、ロシア様々、といったところでしょうか。

今年も劇団キャラメルボックスの観劇に行ってきました。

I went to see the Caramel Box Theater Company again this year.

我が家でのクリスマスイベントとなっている、劇団キャラメルボックスの観劇は、NHKの深夜番組で、

"The Time You Were There, The Time I Will Be There"

のテレビでの上映を見て、私が、この劇団名を覚えてしまったことに、端を発します。

It all started when I remembered the name of this theater company after seeing a screening on TV of the

と、感心しながら、観劇していました。

I watched the play with great admiration.

観劇後、長女が、演出家の成井豊さんと一緒に写真を取ってもらって、感激していました。

After seeing the play, my senior daughter was thrilled to have her picture taken with the director, Yutaka Narui.

(ちなみに、「きみがいた時間 ぼくのいく時間」の演出も、成井さんです)

―― と、『劇団キャラメルボックスをしっかり宣伝しておくように』と、散々長女に念を押されました。

心理学とか経済学では、人間をホモ・エコノミクス ―― 「経済的合理性」にのみ基づいて、かつ「個人主義的」に行動する人間 ―― と見なして、理論(数式やらロジック)を展開します。

In psychology and economics, theories (mathematical formulas and logic) are developed by considering human beings as homo economicus -- people who act only on the basis of "economic rationality" and in an "individualistic" manner.

ところが、OSS(Open Source Software)が登場してきた時、「伽藍とバザール」というエッセイで、この人間像が、少なくともソフトウェアエンジニアについては、『当てはまらないことがある』という論が提示されました。

However, when OSS (Open Source Software) came along, the essay "Kyan and Bazaar" presented the argument that this image of the human being, at least for software engineers, "may not be true.

このエッセイを一言で纏めると、

そもそも、私、世界から恩恵を受けている、という実感がありません。

To begin with, I don't feel that I am benefiting from the world.

ただ、その世界の中のソフトウェアの世界に限れば、大変恩恵を受けているので、この世界にはバシバシ恩返しをしたいのです。

However, I would like to give back to this world in a big way, because I have benefited greatly from the software world within that world.

世界中の紛争や悲劇に関して、私たちは無力感を感じることが多い日々です ―― 特に、今年は、それを痛感させられる年でした。

Every day we often feel helpless regarding conflicts and tragedies around the world -- this year, in particular, has been a painful reminder of that.

まさか、今世紀になって、前世紀前半(1930～50)あたりの流行だった、『帝国主義のパラダイム(に基づく戦争、紛争)』を見せつけられるとは思いませんでした。

I did not expect to be shown the "imperialist paradigm (of war and conflict based on imperialism)" that was popular around the first half of the last century (1930-50) in this century.

『帝国主義』などという、ダッサいパラダイム、もう、とっくの昔に放棄されたと思っていたのですが ―― まだまだ有効なんだなー、と、実感しています。

I thought the lame paradigm of "imperialism" had been abandoned long ago, but I realize that it is still valid.

このような事態に対して、自分の無力を過剰に責めたり、法外な寄付金を提供したりして、自分の心の平安のバランスを保つ方法があるとは思います。

I am sure there are ways to balance one's peace of mind by over-blaming one's own helplessness or offering exorbitant donations in response to such a situation.

I am now deeply appreciating the happiness of being born in a democratic country with a complete rule of law system.

ふと、HONDAのポータルサイトから、これまでのN-BOXの総合距離を取得したら、27,250kmになっていました。

I suddenly retrieved the overall distance of the N-BOX so far from the HONDA portal site and found it to be 27,250 km.

地球の全周距離のざっくり3/4というところですね。

It is roughly 3/4 of the distance around the entire circumference of the earth.

基本的には、駅かスーパーマケットと自宅の往復くらいにしか使っていないんですけど、それでも、米国コロラドと、1.5往復の距離にはなっている訳です。

Basically, I only use the car to go back and forth between the train station or Supermarket and my home, but even so, it is still 1.5 round trips to and from Colorado, USA.

しかし、私、こういう「総計主義的」なモノの見方には、功罪があると思うのです。

などが、相当すると思います。

I think these are the equivalent.

上記(1)については、"小さい"という意味で"1%"を使っていると思うのですが、私たちの多くには、その"1%"が"ない"のです。

As for (1) above, I think "1%" is used to mean "small", but many of us do not have that "1%.

エジソンが言ったと言われている「天才とは1％の閃きと99％の努力」とは、つまり、そういうこと(私たちは凡庸)ですよね。

Edison is said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% effort," which is what he meant (we are mediocre).

逆に、上記(3)を考えると、今、政府から出されている「節電要請」には、結構な効果が期待できそう、と言えます。

On the other hand, considering (3) above, the "power-saving request" issued by the government now seems to be quite effective.

さて、来年2023年は、私が、2014年の段階で「日本の使用電力が低下を開始する年」と予測した年になります。

メーカーに問い合わせたところ、『ドライバの総入れ替え(全インストール)』を提案されました。

When I contacted the manufacturer, they suggested "total driver replacement (all installation)".

です。

こういう大規模なドライバの入れ替えは、結構高い確率で、システムクラッシュするのです。

These large-scale driver replacements have a fairly high probability of causing system crashes.

こういうトラブルで、私は人生の相当な時間を費されてきました。

These problems have cost me a considerable amount of time in my life.

PC設定、Office、IED(VSCode)、Go言語、MindManagerなどを、全部を一からやりなおすのです。考えるだけでゾっとします。

I would have to start all over again with PC setup, Office, IED (VSCode), Go language, MindManager, etc. I shudder just thinking about it.

Youtubeが視聴できないくらいのことで、こんなリスクは取れません。

I can't take this kind of risk for something as trivial as not being able to watch Youtube.
